Uninstall your existing McAfee security service
- Windows 8 and 10
- Close all McAfee® program windows.
- In the Start screen, type Programs and Features (if it is not visible, click Settings in the list on the right).
- Click Programs and Features in the list on the left.
- Select McAfee service from the list of programs.
- Click Uninstall and follow any on-screen prompts.
- Windows 7 and Vista
- Close all McAfee® program windows.
- Click Start, Search, type Programs and Features, and click Go.
- Double-click Programs and Features.
- Select McAfee service from the list of programs.
- Click Uninstall and follow the on-screen prompts.
If you also use McAfee Family Protection, repeat this process but select McAfee Family Protection in step 4.
- Windows XP
- Close all McAfee® program windows.
- Click Start, Settings, Control Panel.
- Double-click Add or Remove Programs.
- Select McAfee service from the list of programs.
- Click Remove and follow the on-screen prompts.

You can also uninstall all McAfee software using the McAfee Consumer Product Removal (MCPR) tool (Windows only). To do so:- Download the MCPR tool and save it to a folder on your computer.
- Navigate to the folder where you saved the file, and double-click MCPR.exe.
- When you see the User Account Control dialog box, click Yes.
- At the McAfee Software Removal screen, click Next.
- Click Next to accept the license agreement.
- When prompted, type the CAPTCHA information, which is case sensitive, and then click Next.
- If you have Family Protection installed, type your Administrator user name and password and click Next.
- When you see the message CleanUp Successful, restart your computer. Your McAfee product will not be fully removed until you have restarted.
